US nationals living in Spain (2025 figures)
Source: INE Annual Population Census (national totals), reference 1 January 2025, compared with 1 January 2024. Same series as the municipal pages.
Spain recorded 57,379 residents with US nationality on 1 January 2025, out of 6,911,971 foreign nationals in total. This counts nationality: it does not include people born in that country who hold Spanish citizenship.
National picture
| Reference date | Residents with US nationality |
|---|---|
| 1 January 2025 | 57,379 |
| 1 January 2024 | 50,623 |
| Year-on-year change (our calculation) | +13.3% |
The change compares two stock figures. It is not a count of arrivals or departures: migration, births, deaths, nationality changes and register revisions all move the stock.
Where do they live?
The municipal pages come from the same census and show the town-level breakdown for 30 selected municipalities. It is a selection, not a national ranking.

Choose a place, not only a community count
A population figure cannot tell you which neighbourhood fits your budget or whether a service works in English. Nationality does not establish language, retirement status, employment or visa type.

Source and method
All figures on this page come from one source: the INE Annual Population Census (Censo Anual de Población), municipal table by country of nationality, reference date 1 January 2025, compared with 1 January 2024 from the same series. INE press release with the reference date. Data: Instituto Nacional de Estadística, reused under CC BY 4.0. Shares and year-on-year changes are our calculations from those figures. Checked 30 September 2026. The INE groups smaller nationalities into regional aggregates; only individually listed countries appear in the breakdown.
